That was the last of the rain. Home at last. I really don't think my truck likes visiting Charleston. It always gets there fine, probably because it doesn't know it is going there until it gets there. But going home ...
The last time I trailered my '68 Corvette to Charleston, the transmission blew on the way home. This time, I threw a serpentine belt on I-95 in Georgia. The belt was an easier fix, but extremely frustrating.
On the first trip with my '68 Corvette, I had major issues with AAA when the transmission blew, as they originally said I had coverage for both the truck and a towed vehicle. When it came time to use the service, they claimed I didn't have coverage for the trailer, because I needed to have an add-on feature, which I did not have at the time, and they would only tow the truck, which left the trailer, with the '68 Corvette inside, sitting on RT 301.
Fortunately, the AAMCO shop had a truck and we went back and got the trailer.
This time I ensured I had the added coverage on my AAA card, but again, when I needed to use it, they claimed I did not have the right coverage, since the trailer was "not for human occupancy". I really had it out with their supervisor, and they said they would see what they could do, which turned out to be nothing.
Fortunately, Georgia has a program called "Champ" where they have roadside assistance on the Interstate. It does not cost anything. A Champ truck stopped, took me to the nearest exit where there was an O'Reiley's and I bought a belt and installed it myself.
By the time I had fixed the truck, AAA still had not arrived, which was almost 3 hours. They claimed they were having difficulty finding a service near me that could handle the job. BS. If that is the case, AAA has really gone down hill over the years.
But I made it home fine after getting back on the road, only 4 hours late. Will unload the car this morning and start it's baking in the sun process. Yes, down here, we do have a hot sun, even in the winter.
The car looks like a version of the bat mobile now that it is satin black. Really sort of cool!
Again, I have photos once I can upload them.
