Damn man, that must have hurt like a SOB. How many did you break? Was it at least not your writing hand?
I was once doing some landscaping around the house and was building a farmers wall out of some big rocks laying around the yard. I had set most of the base course in place and had one more to set. After a few tries it just wasn't setting right - it kept tipping to the side. So, to solve the problem I decided to lift the rock (which probably weighed about 40 pounds) and then ram it downward into the soil to 'set' it. Well, unfortunately my finger got mashed the rock I was setting and the last one I had set.
It was by far the most painful injury I've ever had. My finger was instantly burning hot and I thought for sure I had split it wide open from crushing it.
I had gloves on so I took them off and my finger, surprisingly, was completely intact but literally twice as fat as it normally is. Man did it hurt. I walked about 2 laps around the house cursing under my breath so as not to worry the kids who were playing nearby. After I gained my composure I called my wife over and told her what I had done and that I was sure I just broke my finger into a million bits. Well, it turns out I didn't break it, just smashed it really good. The ER doc prescribed some Vicodin for the pain though and said crushing injuries like that can be really painful. I couldn't use my finger for about a week and my fingernail fell off after about a month.
I guess my point is I feel your pain. Hopefully you're feeling ok and you'll recover quickly.
Oh, and I did break my collar bone in a motocross race when I was in high school. I didn't hear it break, and it really didn't hurt that bad, but the healing process really sucked. I had to wear a harness that wrapped under my arms and over my shoulders and then tied in the back. It basically pulled my shoulders back while the bone healed. Talk about uncomfortable. Had to wear that contraption for about a month.
