To reclaim the Freon, remove and dispose of the unit is the same cost of a new unit

So another project.
This the stub that holds the compressor down. Notice that I removed the nut during installation. In most cases this is the only time you will be able to remove it. They rust on and when/if you have to replace the compressor it is a PITA. I do this on all small units.
Believe it or not these are copper lines

Now for the gas. If you front seat the liquid line you can run the compressor and pump the Freon into the outdoor unit. Notice my allen wrench is in the smaller liquid line. One pumped down front seat the suction line. There is a shop here that accepts units with gas. There clean it and resale it. You can manually run the compressor by pushing the contactor in. Use something that is insulated.
1 down 2 more to go.
