Website Migration & Redesign

As some of you know, I've been working for quite some time on a complete redesign of my website. My goal has been to modernize the design, improve compatibility across browsers and mobile devices, enhance site navigation, and make it easier to publish new blog posts. After a lot of time and effort the new site is ready to go live.
Over the next week I'll be migrating the website and forum to a new server / web host. During this change users may experience a bit of downtime. I'll provide another update once everything is switched over. Wish me luck!

Has anyone else noticed that since the web site migration & log-in issues, that clicking the "Unread Posts" icon for a thread may or may not take you to the first unread post?

When I click the links, I usually end up at a posting that I've previously read and have to scroll down to find the unread post(s). For instance, today on the Off Topic page, I clicked on the Unread Post icon for Vito's "Happy New Year! 2018" thread and it took me to the very 1st post in the thread dated 30 Dec and not the latest post that I hadn't seen which should've been the last post dated 4 Jan since I had already seen the 2 Jan post of the Hell frozen over sign. Also, on the General page, clicking on the Unread post icon for Bob's '65 Coupe Resto-Mod thread took me to the middle of his 24 Dec post instead of his 6 Jan post where it should have taken me since I'd already read his 3 Jan post.

Not a big problem but it is a change from the old system that always went right to the 1st unread post.

Happy New Year,
Paul

Hmmm, this sounds like an issue related to cookies (which was also the likely culprit for some of the log in issues people encountered). I'll do some digging to see if I can resolve the issue. I haven't noticed it on my end using Chrome. I'll try it with a few other browsers to see if I can replicate the issue.

Out of curiosity, what browser are you using? Are you always using the same browser to access the forum?

Anyone else having this issue? If you are, please let me know what browser you're using.

Thanks for letting me know.

I'm not a computer wizard so I don't totally know how cookies on a 'puter work in situations like this. Honestly, I assumed that data for posts already read were based on the user's log-in and actually stored on the forum website.

If that's not how it works and is actually based on cookies on the 'puter or browser itself, that might explain things since I use multiple machines and browsers.

I have 3 machines I use routinely and mostly surf on Chrome or Explorer, but sometimes (not often) Edge gets opened.

Hey Paul,

I did a bit of digging and you're correct. The status of which posts are read and unread for each user are stored in a table in the forum database, not within a cookie.

So now the question is, what the heck is going on. I'll work on tracking that down...
