Re: 1972 BB Convertible in Atomic Orange Color

So if nobody finishes their project, does somebody win? And how do you declare a winner in a race that nobody finishes? :scrazy:

Re: razor blade paint removal

I used simple steel razor blades. Worked like a charm taking off the top coat. It didn't do as well with the primer though. Either way, I'd definitely do it again. Just be very careful not to gouge the underlying fiberglass.

Re: 71 Sees Daylight After 21 Years!

What a pain, ceased bolts are a total pain. I've never had much luck drilling them out either. It's too bad you had to sacrifice the manifold but at least you saved the head. I ended up breaking one of my manifolds tearing the engine down too. All that heat just really accelerates the corrosion proc...

Congrats on the new job! So much for retirement - did the wife got tired of having you around the house? LOL

Are you moving, or traveling back and forth? Tokyo is a long way from Okinawa. :ack:

I think we're having a race to see who can take the longest to finish their project.

Re: Hello from Iowa

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've have a pretty good fleet of Corvettes over the years. The 1970 vert should be a nice car when it's done - I still wish mine was a convertible. How much work does it need?

So the forecast was a wee bit off. We got over 2' at our place. Looks like they're already eyeing another nor'easter for next Tuesday. It appears we're stuck in "one of those" weather patterns :willy:

Slow? I'll show you slow and raise you with almost stopped. It's been well over a year since I've done ANYTHING on my '71 resto except order some parts and THINK about getting back to it! Welcome and keep at it! Yup, seems to be par for the course. I'm in the same boat. In any case, welc...

Re: Bent lower control arm = suggestions

Man, that stinks. My initial thought is probably not what you want to hear - remove the bushing, bend the control arm back into the proper position, and then reinstall the bushing. You may need to use some wood blocking to prevent distortion during bushing re-installation. Others may have alternate ...

Re: Cleaning the firewall

I dealt with the same thing on mine. Luckily, most of the "crusty stuff" is pretty brittle and doesn't stick too well. I removed most of mine using a small putty knife/scraper. For degreasing the firewall I used a product called "purple power" available at WalMart. It's a water soluble degreaser tha...
