Re: rear differential cross member bushings

I missed this post. I beat mine out with a heavy ball pean hammer. When it came time to install the new ones I "had" to use a friends press. When I placed it back on the frame I used plumbers silicon grease on the bushing seating surface hoping that it will make it easier to get the cross member ou...

Re: rear differential cross member bushings

Kept bothering me that they were staying so I decided to tackle them today. After some prying with a screwdriver to get the tabs bent upright and then pounding with a sledgehammer onto a socket placed in the pocket of the bushing they finally came out. Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

Just saw the post on the frame strengthening - interesting stuff. I'll have to look for a copy of that Chevy Power book you mention. Did you do any measurements/adjusting to make sure the frame was true/straight before welding in the gussets, etc.? Also - great example of forethought on creating th...

Re: rear differential cross member bushings

Thanks... I've heard others have had them pressed out, but I don't have access to a press. So then we're paying to get them pressed out, buying new ones, and paying to have the new ones pressed in... or buy my own press. Either way the rubber looks pretty good on mine... no cracks really to speak of...

Thanks. When I noticed the bottom of my front cross member, I quickly remembered your work and just followed suit!

Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

Just updated my blog with a post about the frame repairs and gusseting. Media blasting turned out to not be my cup of tea! :bang: .... but I did enjoy the welding

Let me know what you think

rear differential cross member bushings

Did you replace the bushings in the rear differential cross member before re-installing it? If so, how did you get the bushings out and what after market supplier did you use for new ones?

Thanks!

Re: welding frame seams?

yep, did catch that in your updates... helps to have your work to learn from! I made cardboard templates with everything still in place to check for gusset clearance. Hoping that works out!
