Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

Thanks for the feedback gents! Still knee deep in removing everything from the body, but once it is done I can't wait to see what lays under the paint on the exterior in these areas. :ack:

Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

Finished some more body disassembly the last couple days in the nose... headlights, front bumper and brackets, etc. The maze of vac hoses served as more motivation to convert the system to electric along with the wipers. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx250/mndshp/before%20disassembly_zpsfyxfr3m...

Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

It is quite the engineering marvel, but probably way too complex to be reliable in the long-term. I've had a heck of a time getting mine to operate smoothly, it seems to bind up a bit. The assembly is so sensitive to paint, alignment and fit that it doesn't take much to bind up the system. I just n...

Time to Start on Body... Wiper System Removal

Baby steps for sure, but got the wiper system removed over the last couple days. An engineering marvel I think, especially considering when it was designed. Even so, I'm pretty sure I'll convert to an electric wiper door using a power seat motor... just ordered one today in fact to play around with....

Re: Lift Off! My 1972 Resto-Mod Begins

Thanks MaineVette. I did enjoy assembling the chassis... nice to work with clean, shiny parts! But now body and engine bay disassembly has begun so back to grease & grime... woo hoo!

Re: Rear Differential crossmember

I remember mine being stuck as well... used PB Blaster and 'gentle persuasion' with a small sledge hammer into a block of wood to protect the crossmember and a moving blanket underneath to catch it when it fell.

http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx250/mndshp/RollingChassis_zps0tgoqsk6.jpg It's a roller again! :Hurray: Been a year since I updated my blog http://1972corvetterestomod.blogspot.com/ that discusses details of the work, but just put up a post to describe the details if you're interested. Cliff's...

Re: What to do first?

Saw this thread just in time! Just reached the rolling chassis milestone, and was going to do the engine next. Makes a lot of sense to hold off on the engine until I absolutely need it, so on to the body next! Thanks to you all for steering me on the right course!
